The original theme park in Southern California was not Disneyland, but Knott’s Berry Farm. It does not have the glitz and glamour of other theme parks in the area, but it has down home family entertainment and fun. This theme park is situated about 15 minutes from the Disneyland in Buena Park. There is also a water park on site, Soak City USA as well as the Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel which has rates starting at just $80 per night.
The park has several themed areas with the first and main area being the Ghost Town. This area was the original park and includes a real stagecoach, a mine train, the Calico Railroad, the longest roller coaster in the west GhostRider, and the suspended steel roller coaster Silver Bullet. Camp Snoopy is another area of the park that has young children in mind. Sierra Sidewinder is a family roller coaster, a giant skateboard ride. The Grand Sierra Scenic Railroad, and other kids rides. The Fiesta Village section of the park offers carnival style rides, and also features the thrilling roller coasters Jaguar and Montezooma’s Revenge. The Boardwalk area is just that, featured after a 1920’s California beach boardwalk area. This area is home to the extremely thrilling roller coaster Xcelerator, which accelerates riders from 0 to 82 miles per hour in just 2.3 seconds. This area also includes the Perilous Plunge and other beach side rides. The final section of the park is Wild Water Wilderness and is home to one main ride, the Bigfoot Rapids. In addition to the rides Knott’s Berry Farm has a large variety of entertainment and shows that change throughout the year.
